Jo Priestley

A warm welcome to the Women of Old Yorkshire website. Thank you so much for stopping by to take a look.

I'm Jo (Priestley), a Yorkshire author committed to writing historical fiction based on the lives and loves of real women. I grew up with tales by the fireside in the faded glory of my grandma's grand house on the outskirts of Leeds. It was a house she could ill-afford but it created the perfect atmosphere.

Storytelling has been a huge part of my life, but with a large family I became a professional business writer until the time was right to share my fictional stories of old Yorkshire that were waiting in the wings.

My grandma features heavily in my writing as she had a colourful, often troubled life and she was an open book about it, so to speak, giving me no end of inspiration.

After eight years of writing, six novels have now been published with more to come. The tales are set in and around Bronte Country and they all have a sprinkling of grit in varying measures.

My large family of daughters have grown to be strong, kind-hearted women and I consider this to be my greatest achievement. So, the time has come to commit myself to my passion for storytelling in much the same way.

It would be lovely to hear your thoughts on my stories should you have the time. I very much hope you enjoy a slice of real Yorkshire life from days gone by and true love in all forms, not only romantic.

Sending my warmest wishes,

Jo
